Recently, a drunk driving case has arisen in Missouri involving a police officer.
The police officer in question is a 29-year-old woman who is an officer in Kansas City. Reportedly, early Wednesday morning, the woman was driving a motor vehicle along a road in Kansas City's north side. The woman was off duty.
According to authorities, the woman was driving in an erratic manner. Reportedly, police then pulled the woman over. Reportedly, during this traffic stop, the woman was given field sobriety tests. She allegedly failed these tests.
Police then reportedly told the woman that she was being placed under arrest. Authorities claim that the woman resisted the arrest. Authorities allege that, over the course of this alleged resistance, the woman head-butted an officer and scratched the neck of an officer.
The woman was eventually placed under arrest. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article which reported this story, the woman faces charges of assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and drunk driving in connection to the above allegations. One wonders what will ultimately happen in this case.
This case illustrates a couple of points worth noting. The first is that a person can face criminal charges if he or she is accused of driving while drunk. The second is that an individual can face additional charges if he or she is accused of resisting arrest or attacking an officer during a DWI stop.
A person can be given serious criminal punishments if he or she is convicted of DWI charges and/or charges related to conduct during a DWI stop. Thus, if a person is facing such charges, having a strong defense can be very important.
